The incorporation of ArcelorMittal Packaging Italy Srl (Ltd) into ArcelorMittal Piombino S.p.A., took place on 1 January 2009. As a result, the sites of Piombino, Avellino and Canossa (RE) are now owned by ArcelorMittal Piombino S.p.A.
In an international group such as ArcelorMittal, which includes both ArcelorMittal Piombino and ArcelorMittal Packaging Italy, cost optimization is a primary goal.
With the merger of ArcelorMittal Packaging Italy Srl and ArcelorMittal Piombino S.p.A., corporate costs (e.g. costs relating to the Board of Statutory Auditors, the fulfillment of corporate obligations required for the ongoing management of a company which appoints the Board of Directors, and the filing of annual financial statements, etc.) can be reduced.
The ArcelorMittal Piombino S.p.A. Canossa site is a company that distributes and processes coated steel (tinplate, black plate, chrome plate, pre-painted galvanized and electrogalvanized steel) belonging to the ISTAT (Italian National Statistics Institute) category 28.40.3 "Cold forming and deep drawing of steel sheets.” The starting material consists of sheets and/or wide strips of various products, which are sold in coils or transformed into sheets and narrow strips.
The ArcelorMittal Packaging Company srl (Ltd), was established in 1972, under the name of CSAR S.p. A. (Steel Coating Service Center) with only four employees. The idea was conceived by La Magona S.p.A of Italy, Piombino, a tin producer since 1899, along with other private partners to better serve its metal can customers, for the most part concentrated in the areas adjacent to the CSAR.
The original purpose was to reclassify the material produced by the parent company. The first cutting line was installed in 1976. Seven others have been added up to today. The corporate structure has changed over the years up to the last merger, which witnessed the acquisition of Arcelor by Mittal Steel. The current name of the company is ArcelorMittal Piombino S.p.A.
The Canossa site has developed a Quality System based on UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 standards, which is able to provide the organizational skills in order to guarantee a very high level of customer satisfaction, resolve complaints rapidly, and develop new products in response to requests or customer needs in elaboration with the head office. In addition, it has adopted, and intends to maintain, a management system for Health and Safety with OHSAS 18001:2001 and Environment in compliance with the UNI EN ISO 14001.The ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 were attained by the DNV certifying body several years ago.
