Main objectives
• Guarantee the application of the methodology of continuous improvement through the tools of the Progress Academy, verifying the results.
• World Class Manufacturing (WCM), for improvement in small but steady steps.
• Step Changes for more rapid improvement, invariably supported by WCM.
The essential components are the participation and involvement of all.
WCM
The WCM "philosophy" is geared towards engaging all employees in placing primary importance on safety standards. It is defined, in fact, as a set of principles and methods organized in a global strategy, aimed at attaining the lowest cost with the highest possible yield from the plants during their lifespan.
Responsibility is one of the fundamental principles on which the WCM is based. It gives all personnel the opportunity to manage their own work tools and, consequently develop a sense of appropriation that, in our view, is revealed among the main factors through which qualitative improvements in operating behavior are achieved by means of the Working Groups.
Step Changes
For rapid changes, the Progress Academy has some tools that, unlike the WCM, when necessary, impose prompt radical changes; changes that must be maintained and supported by WCM methodology. These projects are activated when the gaps are too large to be filled by the methodology WCM.
QUALITY CERTIFICATION
ArcelorMittal Piombino obtained the Quality Management System Certification for the first time in 1993. After subsequent reconfirmations in 1996 and 1999, it has also attained:
- Certification in compliance with the regulations of the UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 (Vision 2000) on the threshold of 2002;
- Certification according to the new standard UNI EN ISO 9001-2008 in November 2009;
- Certification in conformity with the specific technical requirements of the ISO TS 16949-2009 regarding the manufacturing of products for the automotive industry in October 2010.
All this has been accomplished as a result of the policies aimed at continuously improving our processes and products.
